COCONUTS - Great For Your Pets!
Most of us have heard of the many benefits that coconut and coconut oil can give us humans, but if you have pets, you may be delighted to know that coconut can also help them enormously.
Coconut oil consists of more than 90% saturated fats, with traces of few unsaturated fatty acids, such as monounsaturated fatty acids and polyunsaturated fatty acids. The lauric acid in coconut oil has antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-fungal properties. Capric and caprylic acid have similar properties and are best known for their anti-fungal effects.
I have used coconut oil and essential oils for my many animals over the past 14 years to help with a variety of issues such as dry, itchy skin and a variety of other skin issues, fungal infections, sore muscles, bad breath, hairballs, coughs, hair loss, asthma to name a few.
All animals can benefit from coconut oil - I've used it on dogs, cats and horses with great success. You can give the coconut meat and/or the oil in their food/on their paws for them to lick off. They love it!
Some of the benefits of coconut oil therapy:
Heals dry, itchy skin and skin conditions such as eczema and dermatitis (also can relieve itching from stings/bites). It is particularly beneficial for horses when they get bitten by horse flies
Improves your pet's coat, making it sleek and glossy
Can reduce / eliminate doggy breath odour
Can treat fungal infections
Improves digestion and digestive issues such as irritable bowel syndrome and constipation
Improves nutrient absorption
Helps cats with hairballs, and dry sore throat
Regulates and balances insulin and thyroid function
Has anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-viral properties therefore will enhance your pet's general health and help them fight infections and diseases
Lubricates the joints, therefore can help with arthritic and bone pain
Helps prevent diabetes
Start off with adding a teaspoon in your pet's food (or some will lick it out of our hand). Alternatively rub a little on the tops of their paws. Apply directly onto skin conditions twice a day. Have a great time with it, and remember it is good for you too!
